What is it like for a man to drive a 2010 Ford Mustang convertible 20 years after he lost his sight? That man is Roger Keeney. What would it be like to be in the car with Roger? You can ask racing legend Tommy Kendall. He was there. Or you can watch the video below to come along for the ride of a lifetime.
But Roger didn’t stop there. He shared his opportunity to drive the 2010 Mustang in the ‘10 Unleashed program with others who have lost their sight in coordination Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Some people there had never driven a car before. Hear and watch their Ford story as they take the drive of a lifetime. It will change how you view your next drive in a Mustang.
By participating in “The ‘10 Unleashed” promotion, which asked people to describe their ultimate Mustang dream experience in 250 words or less, Roger was selected to make his dream come true.
Roger took a brand-new 2010 Ford Mustang convertible on an amazing ride, doing donuts on the pavement and attaining speeds of up to 90 mph. A video diary chronicling his extraordinary ride can be viewed at www.the2010mustang.com
“When I got the phone call from Ford saying that I had won, I thought someone was playing a joke on me,” said Keeney, who lost his sight in a farming accident.
We flew Keeney down to the Ford Proving Grounds just outside of Phoenix, Ariz. With safety their number one concern, the Mustang team arranged for former professional racer Tommy Kendall to ride shotgun in the car.
“The most life-changing thing you can do for folks with disabilities is put them in a situation that everyone else has told them is impossible. The experience for me in the Mustang with Tommy Kendall next to me and driving that wonderful automobile was really great,” Roger added.
Ford Motor Company is giving consumers the opportunity to get in touch with their Mustang side through The ‘10 Unleashed campaign, part of its new 2010 Ford Mustang launch. Through Aug. 15, consumers will have the opportunity to live out their ultimate experience behind the wheel of a 2010 Ford Mustang – whether drifting in Japan like world champion Vaughn Gittin, Jr. or customizing a new Mustang using Ford Racing Performance Parts.
