The Ford Story: Changes on operating issues and VEBA trust help Ford remain competitive.

Ford Motor Company is pleased the company’s UAW-represented work force has ratified agreements to modify the 2007 UAW-Ford National agreement and the Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association health care trust.

By working together with our UAW partners, we identified solutions that will help Ford reach competitive parity with foreign-owned auto manufacturers and that are important to our efforts to operate through the current economic environment without accessing a bridge loan from the U.S. government.

Once again, we would like to acknowledge the leadership of UAW President Ron Gettelfinger and Vice President Bob King, as well as the entire UAW leadership and national bargaining committee, during these important negotiations.

I owned a Ford Aspire until it had 289,000 miles on it. Now my son's mother in law has the car and it has 350,000 miles on it. She hasn't done much more than I did and that is to change the oil every 1,000 miles and buy new tires when needed. She just recently had a part replaced. That car got 42 miles per gallon It was replaced by the Ford Focus which I found uncomfortable, and got less mileage than the Aspire. Why can't you build another compact with the same mileage as the Aspire. I finally went with a Toyota Echo which also gets 42 miles per gallon. I would have bought another Ford, but I was looking for mileage because at the time I was travelling 325 miles per week to and from work in the mountains of Colorado. I am retired now and cannot afford a new car, so I will keep the Toyota as long as I can. Reply
