My First Car
By
Keith A.

At age 69, Grandma Christie was, as she put it, getting “Too old to shift” (so she bought an automatic GTO!) She gave me her 1963 Ford Fairlane 500, “K” code, black exterior, Rangoon red interior, buckets, floor console, Borg warner T-10 4 speed, and under the hood, a “Hi-PO” 289, 271 HP sold lifer engine with dual points (centrifigal distributor). I loved that car, but of course, I jacked it up, raced it, had a few accidents and sold it for $100 to some guy who couldn’t even drive a stick.
Ah, the ignorance of youth!
