More Top Safety Ratings for Ford Motor Company

Safety is on the minds of most car customers, and no company has more five-star crash test ratings than Ford Motor Company. The 2010 Lincoln MKT recently added to the company’s lead by earning top ratings for frontal and side-impact crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Lincoln three-row luxury crossover previously earned a 2009 Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Ford Motor Company has more Top Safety Pick ratings and more U.S. government five-star ratings than any other automaker.*

“Leading the industry in both five-star crash test ratings and Top Safety Pick awards is very significant because customers increasingly rely on NHTSA and IIHS ratings when choosing a new vehicle,” said Susan Cischke, Ford Group Vice President of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering.

The Lincoln MKT features Ford Trinity Front Crash Body Architecture. The energy-absorbing body structure is optimized for strength and stiffness, and features octagonal front frame rails, engine cradle/front subframe and shotgun front structural members designed to absorb and redirect crash forces away from the passenger compartment.

Lincoln MKT includes Side Protection And Cabin Enhancement® (SPACE) architecture to optimize side-impact occupant protection. The SPACE system integrates a hydroformed high-strength steel tube in the floor that runs the width of the vehicle from B-pillar to B-pillar to reinforcements along the rocker panels to help protect passengers in side-impact incidents.

Lincoln MKT also features Ford Personal Safety System,™ combining multiple technologies to tailor the front airbag deployment and safety belt functions to the individual passenger and the accident circumstances. The system can identify variables, such as severity of the crash, weight of the individual passenger and safety belt usage, to adjust airbag deployment force.

My husband and I both have Lincolns. Mine's a 2008 MKX and his is a 2006 LT. We really love them. Very few repairs, stylish design and great comfort. These cars were probably the best investment we ever made. Once we get settled, now that my husband has retired, we may scale down to one car, But, you van bet, It'll be another Lincoln!! Thanks! We have been Lincoln-Mercury owners for over 14 years (leases) and have always been very satisfied with the quality and performance of either the Mercury Grand Marque and the Lincoln Mark and Town Cars. We recently purchased a Lincoln MKT which we understood to be a 6-7 passenger car. The car is wonderful with respect to its rating and features with the exception of one, that being the ad that the vehicle is a six or seven passenger vehicle. One may wish to review the third row seating to see if it meets their requirements. Reply

I am looking at websites for the crash test ratings on a Explorer Sport Trac and I can't seem to find a website with enough information that I can make an adequate decision on if to purchase or not. Reply
